OB/GYN Residency
Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women
Welcome from our PD, Dr. Frank Ling
Welcome to your journey leading to a career in our exciting field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Thank you for your interest in our program, one that is relatively new (we matched our first class of residents in 2021), but a program that has all the benefits of a well-established program.
Everything in our program is designed to provide each resident a comprehensive curriculum in our specialty with the ability to provide greater concentration in areas of interest. Our goal is to prepare residents to become outstanding candidates for whatever future they envision, be it as a clinician who practices advanced medicine or as a fellowship-trained subspecialist.
Key features of our residency include:
- Residency Education takes priority over service obligations
- Didactics emphasizing active (rather than passive) learning, e.g. problem-solving, case-presentations, flipped classrooms
- Small group and “1 on 1 teaching” by board-certified attendings (Our faculty are called “Mentors” because they take seriously the responsibility of helping the resident develop their full potential)
- Mentors with both active private practices as well as extensive academic medicine experience
- Subspecialty expertise in all areas with dedication to resident teaching
- Diversity of patient population and settings (including private practices)
- Access to large volume of OB and gyn cases
- Research opportunities
- Support of sponsoring institution and collaborating healthcare providers
The residency emphasizes the importance of team building and collaboration, both within the program as well as with other healthcare professionals. The energetic and enthusiastic approach to the learning process within the context of outstanding patient care prepares the resident for lifelong learning and a career in an ever-evolving specialty.
The Mid-South is a welcoming and friendly environment. The people, climate, entertainment offered, and cost of living all help make it easy to call Memphis “home.”
We look forward to getting to know you better.
Best of luck during this exciting journey,
Frank W. Ling, M.D.
